Planning and estimating tool only

Every calculator on this site produces a planning-grade estimate — a geometric calculation, a material quantity estimate, a cost range, or a reference value from a published table. None of it is a substitute for a licensed structural engineer, a licensed contractor, or your local building department.

Structural use disclaimer

Calculators involving structural framing — including but not limited to the Rafter Length Calculator, Birdsmouth Cut Calculator, and Joist Span Calculator — are provided for planning reference only. They do not replace an engineered design, a stamped drawing, or approval from a licensed structural engineer or your local building official. Load-bearing decisions, span approvals, and any construction affecting structural safety must be verified against the International Residential Code (or your applicable local code) and confirmed by a qualified professional before any material is cut or any structure is built. Pitch & Span and its operator assume no liability for structural failures, code violations, injury, or property damage arising from use of these calculators.

Cost estimates are not quotes

Any cost figure shown (material, labor, tear-off, or permit ranges) is a planning-grade estimate drawn from published national cost data, not a quote from a contractor and not a guarantee of actual project cost. Always obtain contractor quotes before budgeting or committing to a project.

No warranty

This site is provided "as is," without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. While every formula is tested and every cited coefficient is sourced (see Methodology), we do not guarantee the tools are free of errors, and use of any result is at your own risk.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Pitch & Span and its operator are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of, or inability to use, this site or its calculators.

Acceptable use

Don't attempt to disrupt the site, scrape it at abusive volume, or misrepresent its calculators as your own engineered work product when presenting results to a client or authority having jurisdiction.

Intellectual property

The site's design, text, and code are owned by Pitch & Span unless otherwise noted. Cited third-party data (span tables, code sections, manufacturer specifications) belongs to its respective publishers and is used here as reference, with attribution.
